Come Holy Spirit and fill my heart with your Spirit of Wonder and Awe.
Grant that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him.
So that I may be made worthy to appear before the pure eyes of Your Divine Majesty in the Heaven of Heavens, where You live and reign in the unity of the Everblessed Trinity, God, world without end.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen
The Gift of Fear and Awe of the Lord
Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Fear and Awe of the Lord. Amen
The Gift of The Fear of the Lord corresponds to the Virtue of Hope it is not a servile fear, it is fear only made possible by Love.
A Fear of the loss of the Beloved, a Reverential Fear which moves us to do God's will and avoid sin because of love for God.
This Fear only made possible by Love is enriched and deepened by the other Gifts we have reflected on.
It can be learned "come my children, listen to me, I shall teach you the Fear of The Lord it - we learn it by Obedience to the Commandments, Holiness of Life and Knowledge of the Truth.
Our reception of God's Gifts draws us ever closer to Him and the closer we draw to Him in love, the greater our fear of loosing Him or offending Him or separetion from Him.
Thus the greater our love, the greater our reverance and fear of offending so loving a God and Father, aware as we are of our weakness and frailty.
A shoot shall spring from the stock of Jesse from his roots a Branch will bear fruit The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him -
the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding the Spirit of Counsel and Power the Spirit of Knowledge and of The Fear of The Lord - and he will delight in the Fear of The Lord.
(Isiah 11: 2 - 30)
The eyes of the Lord are on those who Fear Him, on those who hope in His unfailing love
(Ps 33: 18)
You who Fear him, Trust in the Lord .....He will bless those who Fear the Lord - small and great alike (Ps 115)
