You will guide me by your Counsel
And so you will lead me to Glory
(Psalm 73: 24)
Go back to the crossroads which put you in good stead and take the same path. and ask for the gift of Counsel and God's guidance to:
And teach me
For you are my God my Saviour
(Psalm25:5)
The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense
.(Proverbs 31:8)
To what greater Inspiration and Counsel can we turn than to the imperishable truth to be found in this treasure house, the Bible?
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end Amen
The Gift of Counsel
Come Holy Spirit fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Your Counsel and Love. Amen
The gift of Counsel, known also as the gift of Right Judgement corresponds to the Virtue of Prudence and enables us to see and choose correctly what will help most to glorify God, our own salvation and the good of the Church.
It is through the gift of Counsel that the Holy Spirit gives us special light and guidance.
This gift guides us not only to choose the right from the wrong, but the best from the better. This applies not only to the actual decision, but whether it should be carried out immediately or delayed to a more opportune time.
When we pray for help from on high, the Spirit of God responds to this plea through the gift of Counsel, by which he enriches and perfects the virtue of Prudence and guides the soul from within, enlightening it about what to do, especially when it is a matter of important choices ( for example, of responding to a vocation) or about a path to be followed among difficulties and obstacles (Pope John Paul)
In some ways this gift could be described as common sense in the spiritual life In every day life we have often met people with great knowledge but little common sense, and we see how this hinders them in daily living
Without the great gift of Counsel, even if we have other great gifts, we experience the same handicap in our spiritual life.
Whether it is to witness or proclaim the Kingdom, the 'Gift of Counsel' is the gift of letting the Holy Spirit take control in a particular situation as Peter and John do in
Acts 4. 8:13
When they had made Peter and John prisoners they inquired,
"By what power or by what name did you heal the cripple?
it is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead that this man stands before you healed ....when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were amazed and recognized them as companions of Jesus.
The Apostles relied on the Holy Spirit (they became 'filled with His Presence') to say what needed to be said in a bold fashion.
